Culture for sustainable cities

26 MAY

Workshop Facilitator:
Arantza Acha

Duration: 1 hour 30′

During the first part of the session the facilitator will present key findings of the “UNESCO Global Report on Culture for Sustainable Cities, Culture: Urban Future”. This report seeks to demonstrate the link between the implementation of the UNESCO Culture Conventions and the achievement of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, an ambitious, universal agenda for creating a more peaceful, prosperous and equitable world.

Among the 2030 Agenda 17 Sustainable Development Goals, SDG 11 on sustainable cities makes it clear that culture has an essential role to play in realizing sustainable urban development, particularly through strengthened efforts to protect and safeguard the world’s cultural and natural heritage.

The report also presents recommendations and case studies that can contribute to enhance social, environmental, cultural and economic sustainability in cities.

In the second part of the session a practical exercise we will developed  with the participants, in which the facilitator will encourage participants to identify and share concrete initiatives in which artistic expressions are developed in order to promote sustainable development and social cohesion in cities.
